Hugh Watson, born in Toronto, attended the Winchester and Dewson Street Public Schools along with Parkdale Collegiate Institute before entering UTS. He went on to study at Victoria College, where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi. He enlisted in December 1915 and received a commission in the 124th Battalion in the spring of the following year. He went overseas that August, arriving in France in March 1917. The following month, his unit was fighting at Vimy Ridge, strengthening a position captured in the initial attack, when he received a serious head wound. He was taken to the Empire Hospital in London and died there after more than seven months of suffering. His body was repatriated, and he is one of nine UTS boys who fell in service to be buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. “Thou shalt answer for me oh Lord my God.”
